Hashel Al Lamki’s (B. 1986, UAE) multidisciplinary practice unfolds across painting, video, sound, and textile research, weaving personal memory into the sediment of collective and geological time. Rooted in the UAE and shaped by his studies at Parsons The New School of Design in New York, his work navigates landscapes as living archives; sites where ecology, migration, and tectonic movement converge. Engaging terrains such as Hafit mountain, Al Lamki approaches the mountain as both witness and record: a formation inscribed by deep time and the shifting of continents. His practice maps transregional constellations connecting the Arabian Gulf with East Africa, Central Asia, and South and East Asia, resonating with the emerging “Spice-Punk” discourse that reclaims precolonial trade routes as networks of knowledge, exchange, and ecological entanglement. He has participated in major international platforms, including Sharjah Biennial, Gwangju Biennale, Lyon Biennale and Biennale Jogja, and is an active member of the Gallery Climate Coalition.
